My kids can never wait for their birthday to arrive. My husband and I do everything we can to make the day special for them. When they first wake up we have a gift basket waiting for them with a bunch of small gifts. Then we take them out to the restaurant of their choice for breakfast. When the birthday kid gets home from school, they can open one present to play with until their family party. After dinner, we celebrate with cake, ice cream and the opening of the rest of the presents. I think the birthday gift baskets are the highlight though. It starts their day off right and I plan on continuing it even when they are grown and gone.
