Many people see fishing as a passive sport.  You sit in your little seat by the river or lake, half-asleep, munching your sandwiches and drinking tea from your flask with your fishing rod at your side occassionally flexing just to keep you awake.

But actually this is a total misconception.  Let’s look at carp fishing for example.  This is a highly strategic sport relying on a number of strategies that you must employ to even have a hope of catching anything.  The more you fish – in fact, the more you learn about fishing – the more you realise fishing is actually quite a demanding sport.
